i am 1/2 colombian and 1/2 italian-american. i look white to most people, at least here in northern nj. i grew up in a white town with white friends and i dont speak spanish but i am also first-generation on one side and grew up spending my summers in bogota. i dont like things that are considered stereotypically latina, such as hip hop. i like indie music and dress vintage/trendy. i do get asked all the time what i am and people always have definite opinions on it. they either say what a beautiful mix that is, that i dont look latina at all, or that i must be fiery. it's lame. i feel american and italian AND colombian-american. beyond that, i dont know what else to say. sometimes, i put down white, sometimes hispanic, sometimes other. one of my sisters says white the other always says hispanic. whatever i identify myself with, people take issue with. they either think i am embarassed or trying to act latina when i act/look white. i cant win. it sucks. the end....
